A wolf tattoo symbolizes loyalty, victory, fidelity, and courage.

The wolf is extremely important in Native American mythology.  The wolf symbolizes ancestors and other spiritual guides.  The wolf is also seen as a great teacher and pathfinder.  Different clans in the Native American culture were associated with different wolves.  Native Americans believe that the wolf is; intelligent, loyal, devoted, fearless, and family oriented.  They also believe that these attributes are transferred to the wearer of the wolf tattoo.

Wolves vary in size depending on the breed, and can weigh anywhere from 50 to 115 pounds.  Wolves also travel in packs that consist of two parent wolves and cubs three years of age and under.  It is not uncommon for other adult wolves to join the pack.

The average life span of a wolf is 6 to 8 years.  Wolves travel a lot, on average they can travel from 10 to 30 miles per day in search for food.  They mainly hunt for large animals such as deer, moose, elk, and sheep.

Wolves are known for their strength and hunting ability.  Many people who choose to have a wolf tattoo do so as a symbol of strength.

The wolf tattoo is very detailed and can take multiple sessions to complete.  These tattoos often look better on the shoulder or back because of their size.

Wolves are depicted in several ways throughout different cultures.  Celtic mythology shows the wolf eating the sun, which is why we have night time.  The wolf is a sacred animal in the Norse mythology.

Like many other animals, wolves come in a variety of color and size.  The wolf population is at its highest in North America, Europe, and Asia.  Many of the dogs that are native to these areas strongly resemble the wolf.

Wolf tattoos can be done in all black outlines, or can incorporate color as well.  If color is used in the wolf tattoo, it is usually a muted tone.  There are not many pink and purple wolves roaming around in the wilderness.

The wolf truly is a majestic animal.  It is both beautiful and dangerous at the same time and wolves make great tattoo designs.

Sun Tattoos – Tribal Sun Tattoo

dark sun tattooSun Tattoos – Tribal Sun Tattoo

Sun tattoos have long been a popular choice for many people.

The fascination that people seem to have with the sun dates back for centuries.  Many major ancient civilizations worshiped the sun in some form.  It was once believed that the sun sustained and gave meaning to life and the sun is also associated with new beginnings and eternal renewal.

There are many variations of the sun tattoo.  It is most commonly displayed as a circle with rays extending from it.  The rays are sometimes replaced with flames.  Some people choose to add other elements such as the moon, or stars.  Because of its significance in mythology, it also fits well in tribal tattoos.

The size of your sun tattoo depends on your beliefs and style.  Some choose to place their sun tattoo on the back or arm to allow for more room and detail.  Others like to have their sun inked on a smaller scale in a more discrete place.  No matter what your preference may be, make sure that you choose a design that you are happy with.

Like the size, the color also completely depends on personal style.  If you are working your sun tattoo into a tribal piece, you may want to have it done in all black ink.  That way it will match your existing piece, and fit nicely with the style.  However, if you are getting a solo tattoo of the sun you may want to consider some color.  Yellow and orange are both representative of the natural sun, and many go with that option.  One important thing to remember about yellow ink, is that it fades easily.  If you choose that color you should take into account how much exposure your tattoo will get to Ultraviolet rays, because they cause major fading in tattoos.  If it is in an area that receives a lot of exposure, be sure to use plenty of sunscreen every time you are exposed.

Since the sun tattoo is so popular, you may want to consider adding an element to give your sun some uniqueness.  Names, faces, and stars are all great options for adding to a sun tattoo.  No matter what other sun tattoos may look like, remember that this is your art work, so choose something that has meaning and value to it.  After all, it is good to stand out from the crowd sometimes.

Tribal Tattoos For Everyone – Tribal Tattoo Art

Posted by Tattooaholic

tribal-chest-tattooTribal Tattoos are for Everyone

Tribal tattoos are some of the most exciting symbols you can add to your body art collection.  They look bold for any skin type and have an air of maturity.  Perhaps it is because long ago in many cultures such skin decoration was allowed only after having passed certain tests that marked the journey into adulthood, but tribal tattoos look like a testament to having earned respect.  There is also a sense of belonging and an affiliation, acceptance and admiration for the past. A tribal tattoo tells the world you do not just follow trends, you understand and appreciate the value and beauty of traditions.

The current popularity with tribal tattoos started in the early 1990s.  As they were embraced by celebrities and sports figures, the public became interested and followed their heroes to the offices of tattoo artists around the country.  There is much that is attractive about these tattoos.  They have thick daring patterns usually done in dark shades and this can actually make the tattoo last longer without the need to be retouched.  The dark black ink does not fade as fast as other colors, so it keeps the look you originally went for when getting the tribal tattoos.  Tribal tattoos are not carved in stone. In older times, someone getting a tattoo had the design carved into his flesh, which was then flushed with ink and covered with ash. Certainly, this was a far more painful method of creating body art, but this sort of originality can still exist with tribal tattoos.  You can create your own design and decorate your skin with art that holds some meaning to you.

Remember when you begin the journey of finding the right tattoo for you that tribal tattoos have a very bold, distinct look and appeal.  The patterns are drawn with thick and audacious swooping and curving lines. The interlocking patterns woven around on the skin look good anywhere and can be used to incorporate non-related tattoos into one larger unit such as a half sleeve or full sleeve tattoo. A tribal tattoo can be wound around your arm, wrist, ankle, leg or lower arm.  They can also go well on the back, nape of the neck, shoulder, shoulder blade, or small of the back.  Some brave souls have any gone to the ultimate and gotten tribal tattoos connected from forehead to upper cheek.

Covering them over with other tattoos might also prove problematic. However, getting the image you really want to be fairly easy.  Most tattoo artists have inked many tribal designs and can give clients an idea of their skill by showing them pictures of past success. Most are also willing to do an etching of the proposed tattoo as well so there are no surprises.
