Fun Feminine Tattoos

Posted by Tattooaholic

feminine tattoosIt has been almost two generations since the only place most people saw a lady with tattoos was at the circus. Women have embraced the body art in ever-increasing numbers, especially in the last two decades. Actresses, models, rock stars and other celebrities all have multiple tattoos, and it is hard to say at this point whether they started this trend or are simply following it.  Feminine tattoos are fun because they can run from the lacey and frilly, silky and gossamer, to leather and steel.  Femininity is in the eye of the beholder and anyone taking a look at today’s hottest tattoos is sure to get an eyeful.

They are many tattoo patterns that fall within the scope of traditional feminine tattoos. This type of art is marked by either sensitivity to female characteristics or its overall ascetic appeal. Some common themes are flowers, butterflies, cats, stars, the moon and diamonds.  Fairies, dolls, and cartoon characters are often used as well.

Flower tattoos can be arranged in patterns like a tribal design or left alone.  A single rose on the inside of the wrist is a strong statement all by itself as is a lotus blossom on the shoulder.  An English garden of flowers can be twined around an arm or a bunch of cabbage roses can bloom on a slender ankle.  Ivy can twine through toes, and an ‘airbrushed’ urban daisy can decorate a lower back.

Butterflies are not exclusively feminine tattoos, but they come close.  They can be exquisitely delicate or bold and glamorous. Butterflies can be intricately drawn with complex patterns or script inside the wings. Wings can be pert and short or long and draped. These can be done with moderately pastel colors, bold colors or a combination of both.  If pastel colors are used on the butterfly, they should not be used on the background.  Also if you use soft colors they might eventually fade causing you to need to redo the tattoo.

Cats can be cute — think soft furry kittens or sleek character cats wearing a top hat and tails.  A black cat with wild green or gray eyes can stand with the fur on its back raised on your shoulder while a cute sleepy kitty naps on your ankle.

Moon and stars can twine around your wrist or a huge diamond on your belly button.  Fairies can be the most fun although they are a complicated form and require a good body artist.  Again both bold and pastel colors can be used and fairies with well-drawn limbs, delicate facial features and butterfly wings can hold their own even against very complicated backgrounds.  Dolls can be the delicate china variety with a dark background for contrast on your shoulder or rag dolls dancing in a ring around your bicep.   Favorite cartoon characters can be drawn in childlike representations on your lower back, shoulder or arm while with a sly wink; these tattoos can be added to less innocent places.
