While they can be a bit on the painful side, hip tattoos are becoming more popular and offer a range of beautiful and fun ideas for getting inked in a sexy spot. Hip tattoo designs run the range from humorous and fun to dramatic. If you want to draw attention to your curves, there is no more fantastic way to bring the eyes of admirers to this spot quickly than an intricately patterned butterfly or twinkling-eyed fairy. In this area small can actually be better with just a small flower or itsy bitsy shooting star looking like a big deal.

If you have slender hips you can have a fantastic range of hip tattoo designs, but it might not come easy. The hip is after all a bone and if you don’t have any extra fat or muscle the tattoo needle will cause little more than average pain. This is place of sensual wonders, and it is not used to being treated this way. It will certainly be a bit more painful than if you have the same tattoo on your arm or leg, but this spot can be made to look twice as amazing with the addition of a scandalously sexy tattoo.

The only other problem you might have with a hip tattoo is with the care after the tattoo as this area is almost always covered by or rubs against clothing. This friction can double the healing time so be prepared after a hip tattoo to guard against this by wearing looser fitting clothes for a few days.

Some of us think of the hip as being located on the side of the body just lateral to the buttocks on the bony protrusion to the side, but others of us think of this part of the body extending into the curve just in front of the abdominal region. Either way this relatively small area has a way of moving when you are walking or running that make a tattoo look very interesting,

There are a number of hip tattoo designs that seem tailor made for this region. Because this is an area that can be easily covered up if you want it to be this can be a great place for a more risqué tattoo than you might ordinarily go for, or you can put a secret lover’s initials in this spot. The most popular hip tattoo designs are roses, flowers, hearts, butterflies and fairies.

Naturally, through some women like to break stereotype and go for designs such skulls and crossbones, skull and flames, hearts with crossed dangers or other images that lean toward the masculine tattoos favored by men. By placing these tattoos in this spot it makes them more ironic and gives them a gleam of sex appeal. There are a few individuals who have gone for the more humorous and selected a tattoo representation of a cute grinning or dancing hippopotamus for their hip tattoo design.

Ghetto tattoos like urban or gangsta tattoos became more popular with the rise of hip hop music especially during the late 1990s. Hip Hop artists were heavily drawn with gangsta and ghetto tattoo images, inspired or in some cases even gained in prison. Their audience once exposed to these tattoos embraced them and made them their own. While some of the prison symbolism remains much has been elaborated on by those seeking a unique style with this fascinating tattooing trend.

There’s a term for a lifestyle in which there is both frequent luxury and depravation. It’s called Ghetto Fabulous to look wealthy even while perhaps wishing for something to eat. In a struggling economy it’s something more and more people understand. Getting a ghetto tattoo is slightly different then choosing an urban or gangsta tattoo in that the stylization and symbolism is usually a bit different.

Popular ghetto tattoos are often lettering or images having to do with money. Show me the money tattoos are a good example these are usually shown incorporated with dollar signs. The color associated with this tattoo is of course green.

Gold links are good tattoo to have especially if you can’t afford the real item. A linked chain around the wrist, ankle or neck makes perfect fashion sense.

Prison tattoos can have meaning if you actually served time, otherwise you might be better off getting tattoos that do have something to do with your own life and history.

Getting a diamond tattoo can be a lot easier then getting or managing to keep track of the real McCoy. A coffee cup full of diamonds, or a fingernail dipped in gold dust can have sexy meaning as well as reference to material goodness.

Materialism isn’t all there is to ghetto tattoos through. Fallen brothers and sisters are commentated with the R.I.P. tattoo which usually features a lettering of the three letters plus the name of the deceased and the date of birth and death.

Another good idea for a ghetto tattoo is favorite song lyrics. These can be lettered or scripted.

There are certain phrases and slogans that are often used with Ghetto tattoo images such as ‘Da Bomb’, ‘Bootylicious’, ‘Old school’, ‘Do or die’, ‘down low’, and ‘in the hood’. Ghetto tattoos can be placed on many locations depending on the type of tattoo in question. The only problem might be is that with their distinct look they might not easily lend themselves to being incorporated with other tattoos you either have or will get in the future.

One of the most popular ghetto tattoo images is one designed to honor the wearer’s mother. Frequently this means a portrait tattoo of the mother’s face. There is often a rose added either at the bottom of a picture or under the name.

Hip hop artists sport them, so it’s only natural that fans want them. Their lyrics are often graphic and speak of street life, prison and yes, of course sex. Hip hop tattoos run the same gambit from the profane to the lyrical and these tattoos are often memorable for the same reason hip hop artists are renowned – namely for their cleverness and wit.

Hip hop has been on the rise for about the same length of time as the resurgence of the tattoo as popular for the everyday person, and some have noted this trend thinking it’s no coincidence. Rappers such as Tupac, 50 Cent, and Eminem changed music history, and they perhaps inspired others to make some tattoo artist almost as famous as the hip hop artists themselves. The rock and roll generation made tattoos so common they’re now glimpsed in boardrooms as often as they are in bars.

Rappers can appeal to their audience as being both popular and rich, and an outcast at the same time. They can represent the glamorous life of a music star or the lowly life of the incarcerated street thug as with Tupac’s own hip hop tattoo. The slain artist had the lettering ‘thug life’ across his abdomen. Like Tupac’s tattoo much of hip hop tattoos are either lettering with plain or newsprint fonts, and very elaborate dark tattoos. For instance, many hip hop fans go for the mural design, copying the style of their favorite music artist. This can be a large design fitting best on the chest, abdomen, back or upper arms.

The lettering usually includes artist’s sayings, mottos or names. Designs that have meaning to the hip hop community or to the life of the artist being duplicated are often included. Tattoos on the face haven’t been that popular in America or the UK and until recently they were usually only seen on people in prison or bikers. The typical tear drop tattoo many hip hop artists now wear was once a very common one in US correctional institutions. Face tattoos make a bold statement, but artists aren’t compelled to have to go to job interviews and this type of tattoo is impossible to hide if you find yourself needing to spend time regularly in a conservative climate.

Many of the lettering tattoos fans get have the names of artists they most admire along with a word or favorite sayings. When a hip hop artist dies, many fans feel compelled to get a tattoo memorializing them with their lyrics, religious symbols and date of death. Most hip hop tattoos are completely original and are created per the customer’s tastes and the tattoos artist’s talent. It’s not a bad idea to ask to see a tattoo artist’s work before discussing your plans for a tattoo. Be very clear on each aspect of the tattoo you want to avoid confusion.
