Lion tattoos are usually the choice of someone who either has an appreciation for the animal, or someone who wants to project an image of pride and strength.  Lion tattoos are also commonly associated with pride, royal authority, courage, justice, strength, and nobility.  Lions are also considered to be the “King of the beasts”.

Throughout history the lion has been associated with both mythology and religion.  In early Christianity Jesus was often represented by a lion, because he was seen as the “King of Kings”.

What type of Loin tattoo should you get?

When making the decision to get a lion tattoo, the first thing to consider is the gender of the lion.  Do you want a male or female?  The male lion has a large beautiful mane, and can reach a weight of 500 pounds.  Male lions are very protective of their territory and their mates.  They take down large prey and help take care of cubs.  The female lion is smaller in size, only reaching around 400 pounds.  The females have short sleek hair over the head and body.  Females do a large majority of the hunting for their groups.

How should your lion pose?

The pose of your lion tattoo also has meaning.  A lion depicted in a peaceful state can suggest quiet yet confident strength.  A roaring lion can suggest a desire to make your power known.  A lion that is paired with a smaller gentler animal can suggest a desire for peace.  A lion engaging in battle can suggest a desire and willingness to fight for your beliefs.

One popular pose for the lion is the leaping lion.  Lions catch their prey by quietly stalking them.  When the time is right they attack using both their great speed and brute strength to bring down the other animal.

Although lions are seen as large commanding animals, you do not necessarily have to get them super sized.  Lions are a great choice for arms and backs because of the space.  They look very nice when they are depicted in large form; however they look equally stunning on a smaller scale.  If you want the same symbol in a smaller size you may want to opt for just a lion head.  The size of the lion that you choose can also have an effect on your color options.  It is easier to add different colors if you go with a large tattoo.  Smaller tattoos usually look better in a single color.
