What Do Rose Tattoos Mean?

red rose tattooWhat Do Rose Tattoos Mean?

Rose tattoos have meaning and they are closely matched up to the meanings of the colors of roses. When you decide to get a rose tattoo you then need to find why you want to get the rose in the first place. This will help you decide what color to get your rose tattoo.

Red rose tattoos symbolize love, romance and a deep feeling for someone. You might see a person’s name with a red rose tattoo as these tattoos are special or for a special someone. The person you hold dearest to you or to your heart would have the red rose. Sometimes red rose tattoos have dates of passed on loved ones.

Pink rose tattoos symbolize great admiration, elegance and grace. The pink rose would be given to someone you like, but not necessarily love. For close friends or best friends, a pink rose tattoo would be perfect.

Yellow rose tattoos are symbolic for joy and friendship. The yellow rose tattoo would be given to someone who is a great friend to you or best friend and perhaps for a friend who has passed on.

Orange rose tattoos symbolize something that is meaningful to you, possibly a special occasion.

Lavender rose tattoos are symbolic for love at first sight. Maybe someone you are with now, who when you first saw you felt deeply moved by them, or love at first sight.

Some of these rose tattoo colors are not necessarily used all of the time but depending on their circumstances they can be significant. Roses do have deep meanings and so do rose tattoos.

The rose is the most popular of the flowers, and has been a long time favorite of tattoo lovers everywhere.  Roses are widely associated with beauty and love.  Rose tattoos are very popular among both men and women and usually different in style if a male decided to get one. Typically a rose tattoo is gotten by women only.

What color should your rose tattoo be?

  • Red: Passion or love.
  • Blue: Originality and uniqueness.
  • Yellow: Friendship
  • Dark Pink: Appreciation or gratitude.
  • Light Pink: Admiration or sympathy.
  • White: Reverence, humility, or loyalty.
  • Orange: Enthusiasm.

A true red rose is said to symbolize true love.

Rose tattoos can be simple in design or very detailed depending on your individual style.  Simple roses outlined in black can be beautiful.  Colored roses are also very nice.

A single rose can be a very elegant addition.  However roses also look great when tattooed in multiples.  They also lend themselves well to wreathes, and other designs.  It is common to see a rose incorporated into a bigger tattoo such as an arm tattoo or back piece.  Since roses are a symbol of love it is not uncommon for them to be combined with a heart tattoo.  Other common additions to rose tattoos include:

  • Butterfly
  • Crosses
  • Ribbons

The ribbon is usually added to display a name, such as “MOM”.  Many people choose to have the name of a loved one tattooed with their rose or even the date a loved one passed aways.

Where should your rose tattoo go?

Roses are small enough to be tattooed anywhere on the body.  Some common placements of the rose include:

  • The back
  • The arm
  • The hip
  • The ankle

The ancient Greco-Roman culture believed the rose to symbolize love, beauty and springtime.  The Romans participated in an annual feast honoring the dead, and called it Rosalia.

There are several pre-fabricated rose designs to choose from.  However, if you would like a little more originality, you may want to consider designing your own rose tattoo.  By designing your own tattoo, you can be sure that you will receive a tattoo that has significant personal meaning to you and no one else.

The meaning of your rose tattoo will depend on your personality and taste.  Whether you are displaying your love for another, or you just admire the beauty of the flower itself, a rose tattoo is a great addition to the body.
