Miami Ink is a tattoo shop located in South Beach in Miami, Florida.  It is also the name of a reality TV show on The Learning Channel, which is filmed at the studio.  There are six artists who make up Miami Ink Tattoos, including Kat Von D., Ami James, Chris Nunez, Chris Garver, Yoji Harada and Darren Brass. Each of the six artists has a unique personality, making the show very fun and interesting to watch.

What makes Miami Ink stand out is the fact that it has far less drama than of the typical reality TV show.  Indeed, it is more of an interesting documentary more than anything else.  The popularity of the show proves just how mainstream body art has become.  The episodes center on the artists as well as the Miami Ink tattoos they give to customers.  Tattoo enthusiasts enjoy watching the show and find it very interesting.

The Miami Ink show follows the artists as they work, and gives viewers a glimpse into the customers’ lives as they get their tattoos.  Sometimes moms will get their very first tattoo as a tribute to their kids, and soldiers will get tattoos of their families as a way to keep their loved ones with them when overseas.  Sometimes celebrities will show up wanting touch-ups on their tattoos.

As for the artists themselves, viewers can feel connected to them as the film crew follows them around both inside the studio and outside.

• Kat Von D – She specializes in memorial pieces and celebrity icons.  Her talent lies in her ability to draw realistic looking images.
• Ami James – He hails from Israel, and is now the co-owner of the Miami Ink studio.  He has nearly 15 years of experience, and has come a long way since he began giving dragon tattoos at the age of 20.
• Chris Nunez – He is the other co-owner of Miami Ink.  He worked in construction and played a part in refurbishing the studio’s storefront.   He spent time traveling throughout Europe studying different tattoo styles.
• Chris Garver – He is a world-renowned tattoo artist who began giving tattoos in Pittsburgh in his late teens.  Garver is now 34 and spends much of his time at Miami Ink.  He also owns True Tattoo in Hollywood, CA.
• Yoji Harada – He was an apprentice during most of the show.  He’s been learning and training a great deal since he came to America from Japan. 
• Darren Brass – He is often referred to as the quiet one.  Brass is from Connecticut, and moved to Miami to advance his career as a tattoo artist.  He became injured shortly after filming the show and had to take some time off.

These six Miami Ink tattoo artists together are interesting to watch.  The customers also make the show fascinating, and it can be intriguing to learn about their reasons for wanting tattoos.
